Local poll results clearly show people's confidence in Govt - MSU
COLOMBO: The results of the Local Polls of March 30 clearly manifest
the people's confidence in the emergence of a practical leadership out
of the Mahinda Chintanaya which recognises the long neglected rural
economy that caused the gap in the development process, stated a media
release by the Ministers Secretaries' Union (MSU) yesterday.
The victory of the United People's Freedom Alliance led by the SLFP
is also an indication of the people's intelligent identification of the
Development Programme pioneered by President Mahinda Rajapaksa during
the past short span of time such as four months, the media release
stressed.
If the JVP, a constituent party of the UPFA did not take the decision
to contest the Local Government Polls separately, the UPFA could have
won all the 264 local bodies instead of the 233 local bodies that were
won to score a total of 3369074 votes in favour of the UPFA, it pointed
out.
The MSU media release further stated that it is the responsibility of
every constituent party of the UPFA not to confine themselves to their
party agenda and urged them to identify the causes of obstacles that
stood in our way to national progress throughout several decades in the
past.
We must set an example to the people to realize the value of unity in
action, it added. |
