Two criminals including Wambotta killed in shootout

MIRISSA: Wambotta alias Gamage Ajith Wasantha, a notorious criminal and another most wanted criminal Kotage Sumedha were killed in a shootout near Mirissa, in the Kosgama police area on Sunday night, Kosgama Police said. Another criminal who was injured had been rushed to the Kurunegala hospital.

Two other criminals who had come along with Wambotta had escaped after the shooting incident, the Police said.

According to the investigations conducted by the Kosgama Police several unidentified persons had come in a white van following the criminals and had opened fire near the Mirissa and had escaped in the same van.

Police said that the assailants had used several T56 weapons to kill the criminals including Wambotta.

Senior SP Wilfred Mahana is directing investigations assisted by Chief Inspector Susantha Jayawardena, OIC, Kosgama Police Station and a Police party attached to the Kosgama Police.
