President to solve problems of persons in brassware industry

COLOMBO: President Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday pledged to offer solutions for the problems faced by persons engaged in the brassware industry.

The President made this pledge when he met a group of brassware producers yesterday when he visited Kandy. Policy Implementation Minister and Kandy district MP Keheliya Rambukwella had arranged the meeting.

During the discussion, the producers pointed out to the President the hardships they have to face in finding brass as a raw material for their products.

The President who called the relevant officials instructed them to submit a report on the issue within three days and take all steps necessary to address the grievances of the brassware producers.

The producers commended the President for taking immediate steps to address their problems.

Sri Lanka's brassware industry which has offered employment to around 200,000 people is centred in the Kandy district.
