Peace efforts will bring results

KANDY: Reviving of peace talks that were in a state of dead lock for nearly three years was a victory of the country and President Mahinda Rajapakse deserved the appreciation of the all for having laid a solid foundation to achieve that situation, said Minister of Policy, Plan Implementation Keheliya Rambukwelle.

Minister Rambukwelle made these comments to the Daily News on the recommencement of peace talks between the Government of Sri Lanka and LTTE in Geneva.

He said that the country had to face with numerous problems due to peace talks were not held during the past three years. The only hope and expectation of the people during that period was that discussions should be commenced.

The opinion of the majority of the people was that the current peace efforts would bring fruitful results and would be able to bring the 25-year-old war an end and usher in peace and prosperity.

It was with that hope that a large number of UNPers including him decided to join hands with President Mahinda Rajapakse, he said.
