He said that Dankotuwa was the envy of many Asian exhibitors when
they found the stand always busy with prospective customers. Dankotuwa
participates in the two main trade fairs in Frankfurt in August and
February every year.
Ambiente in February is the most popular with buyers from all over
the world coming to see the latest designs on display.
This fair which has other categories in lifestyle products and
house-wares had 87 countries participating with over 4,500 exhibitors
out of whom over 2,000 exhibitors were in the tableware and kitchenware
category. An estimated 150,000 visitors attended the trade fair.
Prof. Karnagel was introduced to the company by its Italian agent and
had to visit the factory several times to complete the design. This was
followed up by the visit of an expert modeler from Germany who made the
basic models and helped the factory personnel to develop the shapes.
Dankotuwa which was mostly making products for other brands is now
gradually introducing products on its own brand. Its current brands are
Dankotuwa and Elan for the international market and Laklain for the
local and regional markets. |
