Rethink about supporting UNP Faizer Musthafa tells Muslims

Kandy: The Kandy district SLFP Muslim organiser Faizer Musthafa has urged the Muslims to rethink about supporting the United National Party.

He was speaking at a meeting in Akurana to select SLFP candidates for the forthcoming Local Government polls. The meeting was presided over by Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.

Musthafa added that the Muslim community should not continue to live disgusted saying that they were UNPers from the very beginning, but should extend their support to the government headed by President Mahinda Rajapakse who has been elected by the people to govern the country. He would rule for another 12 years. A significant development could be anticipated at the regional level by voting the SLFP into power in Local Bodies. The ruling power of all the local bodies should be given over to the Peoples Alliance.

I have joined the Government of President Rajapakse without expecting any positions or privileges. I did so taking into consideration the fact that President Rajapakse who was elected by the people of all communities, has committed himself to usher in an honourable peace under which people of all ethnic and religious groups could live in peace and harmony," he added.

President Rajapakse is taking all efforts to listen to the views of all sections of people and follow the democratic way to achieve peace in the country. Therefore the Muslim people should extend their fullest support and cooperation to him. He also appealed to Muslim peoples representatives too to extend their support to the Government.

President Rajapakse has taken steps not only in national politics but also at the international level to protect human rights of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities equally.

He has taken theoretical as well as practical steps in that direction. He was a leader in whom every one could place their confidence Musthafa added.

Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa said that President Rajapakse has appointed Faizer Musthafa a young Muslim leader to lead the Muslim community in Kandy district for the People's Alliance with a view to coordinate with him the problems of the Muslim community with the view to find solutions to them.
