'First Art's maiden exhibition of paintings

ENTHUSIASM: Children preparing for the exhibition

ART: 'First Art' - an art foundation for children will hold its maiden exhibition of paintings at the Town Hall, Kegalle from February 12-15. The exhibition will be opened on February 12 at 10 a.m.

The 'First Art' inaugural exhibition will showcase the paintings of both children and their parents. What is unique is that the 'First Art' foundation is situated at Hettimulla, Kavudugama - a remote village four kilometres off Kegalle. The foundation had only two children at the beginning. However, it has 85 children in its fold today.

The children give vent to their creative abilities under the supervision of Nilanthi Weerasekera who holds a Master's degree in Art from the University of Delhi and R. P. Abeyratne a Fine Art graduate from the Aesthetic University.

In addition to painting the children are exposed to other forms of art such as dancing, literature, folk-song and drama. Plans are afoot to conduct workshops and training sessions with the help of foreign experts.

The exhibition will have about 200 exhibits turned out by children and their parents.
