Soldier nabbed with hand bombs, ammunition

A soldier attached to Welikanda Army camp was nabbed with two hand bombs and two Anti-aircraft ammunition by Mahawa Police during a special midnight operation.

Investigations directed by Nikaweratiya Senior SP Kithsiri Dayananda revealed that the soldier had brought the ammunition to commit a crime in the Kurunegala division.

The special police team also arrested 101 suspects allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit liquor in the area. Police arrested 22 suspects wanted by several Magistrate Courts in the area.

Earlier, the Magistrate Courts issued arrest warrants against the 22 suspects, Senior SP Dayananda said. He said after recording statements of the suspects, they will be produced before Magistrate Courts.
