Don't make immature statements, Media Minister tells UNP

MEDIA and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa yesterday rebuffed UNP Deputy General Secretary Tissa Attanayake's recent remark that the Government has failed to ensure the security of Parliament as utterly irresponsible and childish.

He assured that the Government is duty bound to ensure the protection of the people not only within Parliament but also outside and that it has taken every step to meet this.

The Minister in a release said it is deplorable that the UNP Deputy General Secretary has forgotten the era when their party neglected their duty to ensure the security of Members within Parliament and their Leadership advised the people to find their own security when nobody was safe in the country during a certain stage.

People can only scoff at and sympathise with Attanayake for making immature statements of this nature which are motivated to gain political mileage after the party was rejected by the people for the 13th time, the release said.
