Govt on alleged abduction of TRO employees
THE Government is paying serious attention to the two alleged
incidents of abduction of 10 TRO employees, five on January 29 and
another five on January 30, of which the second abduction of the January
30 was reported to the Government Security Division ahead of the alleged
incident of the 29th.
A large number of Police Officers under two DIGs and two SPs are
conducting investigations at the moment in addition to the operational
team deployed under the North Central Province DIG Kingsley T. Fernando
to nab the culprits involved in the Welikanda abduction incident. These
police teams are functioning under the personal supervision of IGP
Chandra Fernando.
Police are baffled on the statement of the driver of the vehicle
involved in the alleged Welikanda abduction of January 30 because the
incident took place around 4 p.m. on January 30 was not reported to the
Welikanda Police which was the nearest or any other police station until
it was reported to the TRO Administrative Officer on the following day
and because the Administrative Officer concerned in turn complained of
the alleged incident to the police only after the lapse of nine hours
since he received the information.
The Police say that if the incident was reported to the Police
promptly the task of getting at the culprits would have been nabbed much
easier.
The Government, is determined to leave no stone unturned and deal
with transparency to disclose the truth of these two alleged abductions,
states a media release of the Government Information Department in this
regard. |
