Shelve petty actions - Ranil

UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in an Independence Day message states:

"When the UNP ushered in Independence 58 years ago under the leadership of late D.S. Senanayake there was a special set of policies formulated for the country's development.

The objective of these policies were to take the country and nation towards development by removing the limitations and shackles imposed in various sectors by providing freedom from illiteracy, poverty, sickness and unemployment.

But the country suffered setbacks from time to time due to actions taken along slogan politics to obtain petty political gain.

It was too late when certain political groups understood the correctness and validity of UNP policies.

It is now being proved that the policies adopted by the UNP regarding the national problems were more correct than those adopted by slogan shouting political groups.

Therefore on this Independence Day let us shelve petty actions seeking political gain and pay our attention towards finding pragmatic solutions to the problems facing the country and nation.
