Sunil - manager of athletic team

Former Asian Games gold medallist, Sunil Gunawardena has been appointed Manager of the Sri Lanka athletic team for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The Athletic Association of Sri Lanka (AASL) Ex-co, which met last night, decided to appoint Gunawardena, replacing H.W. Nimalasiri, who was previously appointed for the job.

Following the findings of a three-member committee regarding the conduct of AASL Treasurer Nimalasiri, the AASL decided to remove him as manager. Nimalasiri has also been removed from post of treasurer he held at the AASL.

The three-member committee found Nimalasiri guilty of depriving three Sri Lankan athletes from competing at last year's IAAF World Youth championships. Nimalasiri, handled the ticketing of the Sri Lanka junior team but failed to make prior reservations on time.
