Arrested for filling paddy field

A person was arrested by the Disaster Management Unit officials for filling up a paddy land at Batalandahena, Gotatuwa and handed over to Kolonnawa Police.

The Disaster Management Unit has also identified more sites which are being filled in the area.

Information about persons who had put up structures blocking the irrigation canals and other vital waterways has also been collected, Wing Commander Chandrasena of the Disaster Unit said.

Kelani Ganga Flood Control Unit Engineer U.B. Ariyasinghe, UDA planning officer, Windya Welideniya, the Gramasevaka, a navy officer and Land Reclamation Board also participated in the raid.
