WHO praise for Lanka
The World Health Organisation (WHO) praised Sri Lanka for the action
taken to prevent the spreading of HIV/AIDS, Avion Flu and other
communicable diseases, a meeting at the Parliamentarians conference on
HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh last month was told.
Although around 40,000 people died and others were displaced by the
tsunami but no communicable diseases were reported from Sri Lanka. This
was mainly due to the action taken by Health Minister Nimal Siripala de
Silva together with the health staff including medical officers.
De Silva delivered a special speech at the conference.
The formal action taken by the Minister has been praised by the world
community. De Silva who represented Sri Lanka at the conference said the
WHO had said Sri Lanka has set an example to the world by preventing the
spread of the two diseases. |
