Sadaham Charika tsunami housing project opens at Malamulla

The stage II of the tsunami housing project at Malamulla, Panadura launched by the International Buddhist Centre Viharaya's Sadaham Charika - Wellawatte which was opened by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapakse on January 26.

The foundation stone for the housing project which included six houses and a community centre was laid by President Mahinda Rajapakse when he was the Prime Minister on January 26, 2005.

Eight houses were completed and handed over to tsunami victims at the stage I of this project on July 30, 2005.

President International Buddhist Centre Sadaham Charika - Wellawatte, President and Housing Project Organiser Sridevi Silva, was instrumental in completing the stage II of project. She was assisted by Chief Incumbent of the International Buddhist Centre, Wellawatte Ven. Maharagama Mahinda Thera and her husband Lion Meryyn Silva M.J.F.

First Lady Shiranthi Rajapakse after handing over the keys to the families laid the foundation stone for the third phase of the project which includes eight houses and will be funded by Mr. and Mrs. Siritunga; six houses to be funded by 'Success - Colombo' a welfare shop, a community well and a montessori school for children.

The cost of the community centre was donated by Ursula Bair of Germany.

The committee members of this housing project have agreed to provide a scholarship fund for the children and they have also donated each house with furniture and fittings.

Former DIG and Defence Advisor H. M. G. B. Kotakadeniya was also present.
