Areas around power generation plants declared special security zones

Areas surrounding the Power generation plants have been declared special security zones and the public have been prohibited from entering them by the Power and Energy Ministry.

The Ministry has taken this decision to protect and safeguard the country's power plant complexes on a directive by Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne.

Under this programme, the CEB in Co-ordination with the Security Forces and Police will implement a special security plan in and around power plants under the advice of the Ministry of Defence, a release said yesterday.

The release said under this plan the public will be prohibited from entering these special security zones in the vicinity of power plants. The public are also requested to desist from using near by roads in the immediate vicinity of power plants for sight seeing or other purposes.
