223 cannabis users fined in Nikaweratiya

Following a continuous operation in the Nikaweratiya Division, Police took into custody 223 suspects who were in possession of cannabis (ganja) during last year, Nikaweratiya Police Division Senior SP Kithsiri Dayananda said.

All suspects produced before Mahawa and Nikaweratiya Magistrate Courts pleaded guilty to the charges.

Mahawa and Nikaweratiya Magistrate Courts imposed a fine of Rs.1.5 million on the 223 suspects for possessing cannabis.
