Investigate media mafia creating fear psychosis - Weerawansa

JVP Parliamentarian and Parliamentary Group Leader Wimal Weerawansa making a special statement in Parliament yesterday requested the Government to initiate an immediate investigation into a news item titled "Colombo a target of terror attacks, warns intelligence" published in an English newspaper on January 15. The statement:

Weerawansa said he was making this statement to draw attention to the cursed and wicked campaign launched by certain sections of the media in support of communal separatist terrorism.

A report published in the Sunday Leader of January 15 clearly proves the manner in which this campaign carried out under a common agenda in league with separatist Tiger terrorism has become a threat to normal community life, he said.

The statement: "This report captioned "Colombo a target of terror attacks, warns intelligence" said the Colombo Harbour, World Trade Centre, Central Bank and a leading hotel would be the target of a terrorist attack within three days after Thaipongal day.

The report said the Government had been warned about this attack by Intelligence wings. It also said that several commercial institutions had already decided to move out of the World Trade Centre for security reasons.

What do we gather after a careful observation of this news item? what is the intention of this crafty character assassinating editor belonging to the underworld media mafia in publishing this news item ? It is no secret that Tiger terrorists are engaged in an exercise to bring the Sri Lankan people and the Government to heel by driving fear into them and make them dance according to their tune.

Instead of unfolding the message about this hidden terrorist agenda, the media mafia subservient to the terrorists are trying to interpret terrorist acts of the Tigers in a manner favourable to the Tigers.

What the Tiger terrorists want is to achieve their objective by driving fear into the people's minds. These crafty character assassinating editors are also executing a Tiger contract to create a fear psychosis among the people.

Following the publication of the news item certain foreign commercial institutions have stopped their operations here on January 16.

This news item had caused a fear psychosis among foreign investors operating here as desired by Tiger terrorists.

What more examples do we need to understand the close concord between the objectives of terrorism and those of the media mafia directed by the UNP ?

Actually the editor of this English newspaper is allegedly having direct contacts with the Tigers and acting according to their needs. The melodrama staged by him alleging that the President abused him over the telephone was first reported in the Website www.nidharsanam.com supervised by Pottu Amman, the Intelligence Chief of the Tigers. This report in the website said it was based on a statement made by the Sunday leader editor to its Colombo Correspondent.

'Who can assure that this so-called Colombo correspondent was not a member of the LTTE pistol gang.

It was several months before Lakshman Kadirgamar was assassinated by Tiger terrorists that this godfather of the underworld media mafia started attacking his good name through his English and Sinhala papers.

What more examples do you need to prove that the Tigers and their media agents in Colombo are acting according to the theme "first character assassination and then murder."

It is not only in the North and East that Tiger terrorism is active. The psychological operations unit of Tiger terrorists is stationed in Colombo. We should understand that this Tiger Psy-ops unit had been in the forefront in launching operations on behalf of Tiger terrorists more than their Charles Anthony Brigade and the Sea Tiger Brigade.

The 'Major Generals' and 'Captains' of this Tiger Psy ops unit operate in Colombo under the guise of media men or civil society activists.

In whatever guise they operate these persons launching Tiger psychological operations should be considered as prime enemies of the entire nation.

No one knows under what official source of income this English paper belonging to the media mafia and its sister Sinhala newspaper is being maintained.

Are Tiger funds supporting these newspapers or are the illegal earnings made by Pasan Madanayake the alleged arms dealer supporting these newspapers ? Shouldn't we investigate this at this time when we are approving regulations to probe terrorist funding sources ?

Sometimes when I place these facts in the interest of the whole nation, I may be subjected to character assassination by this media mafia, by branding me as a "dangerous criminal" who had attached innocent media butterflies with a hatred language.

I wish to emphasise that we have the strength to face any such attacks. The country and the Sri Lankan nation cannot march forward in this difficult and challenging moment without dividing this wicked and sinful media operation which formulate news reports according to Tiger needs in keeping with its psychological operation based on the theme "first character assassination and then murder."

It is our bounden duty to uncover and defeat these enemies of the nation wherever they hide. Politics which is not dedicated to this duty will only be politics of villainy and deception.

Whatever it is the present Government ought to pay strong attention to this psychological operation carried out by the media mafia in league with terrorism.

The Government must take steps to conduct a special investigation into this news which was the subject of my statement.

The Government must find an answer to our question as to whether terrorist funding is flowing into this underworld media mafia acting in league with terrorism.

It is the Government's duty to ensure that these character assassins are not allowed to decide the fate of Sri Lanka.

While requesting the Government to pay urgent attention to this matter we urge the public to reject these disgusting sections of the media serving terrorists."
