Noble woman to open Lady's Rest Home

A serene and noble woman of grace Miss D.M. Gammanpila with patriotic fervour is rendering a great national service for the welfare of the Sri Lankan community in Britain.

She commenced her life's career as a nurse, and left Sri Lanka in 1962 for employment in a hospital at Manchester, England. Later she was promoted as a staff nurse.

Since her retirement, she has contributed immensely to the development and propagation of the Buddha dhamma.

She has set up a temple at Manchester town, a Theravada Buddhist centre. The temple was known as 'Kethumathi' temple and the residents come to study Buddha, dhamma and practice meditation. She has also visited Buddhagaya twice and worshipped the historical buddhist centres.

As a practising Buddhist, she lives by dhamma law and justice and with that view in her mind she has already finalised the opening of a 'Gaman Sewana", a Lady's Rest Home at Kuragoda, Galpatha on February 4, 2006.

She said that she has bought two acres of land and constructed a building with all facilities to accommodate seventeen homeless feeble old women in the area.

The Lady's Rest Home is located at Kuragoda, Galpatha.
