'Wedding Fest', exhibition and trade fair in Kandy

"Wedding Fest 2006" a colourful exhibition, trade fair and demonstration of all aspects connected with wedding ceremonies organised by Central Province Women's Chamber of Small Industries and Commerce (CPWCSIC) will be held for the first time on February 3rd, 4th and 5th at Hotel Suisse Kandy in a grand scale.

President of the CPWCSIC Rosita Samarajeewa told a media briefing held at the office of the chamber that this three-day colourful festival would be a demonstration and trade fair and exhibition. The objective of holding this festival was to encourage unemployed women who have some skills to take to self employment projects in that field and in the field of small and medium scale Industries.

There will be 57 trade stalls in addition to the main exhibition hall and in those stalls all aspects connected with wedding ceremonies of Sinhalese, (Kandyan and other), Tamil and Muslim communities will be on show.

Bridal dressings, preparing and cooking traditional food and sweets of all those nationalities, costumes, jewellery, floral arrangements, decorations, photography, transport, performing of rituals and wedding customs and all other features connected with wedding ceremonies will be on show and also be demonstrated, Rosita Samarajeewa explained.

She said that their chamber was a member of the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka. The "Wedding Fest 2006" has been organised with the assistance of the Federation and German Economic Solidarity Program (GESP).

Women's Chambers of Small Industries and Commerce of Matale and Badulla will also participate. Samarajeewa said that the event will cost nearly Rs. 1.1 m. This will provide marketing and improving of the standard of products of participants and also they will be introduced to foreign markets. Steps will also be taken to arrange loan facilities from banks to those who wish to take to self employment projects.

Central Provincial Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake and Mayor of Kandy Kesara Senanayake will be the chief guests at the opening of the Festival on 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.
