Relics enshrining on February 8 in Indo-Lanka peace pagoda
The enshrinement of sacred relics in the relics chamber of the
Indo-Sri Lanka peace pagoda (cetiya) built at Sankassanuwara in India
will be held on February 8.
President Mahinda Rajapakse has donated a gilded casket (karanduwa)
for the enshrinement of these relics.
President Rajapakse handed over the casket to Ven. Galagama Attadassi
Anunayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter and S. Abeyrathne founder of the
Peace Pagoda and ACBC President at a ceremony at Temple Trees on Monday.
The Maha Sangha present chanted seth pirith and invoked blessings on
the President and thanked him for the services rendered by him for the
furtherance of Buddhism.
A press release issued by the President's office said the casket
bearing the relics will be taken in a special motorcade to Moneragala
through Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Weeraketiya and Tissamaharama to enable
the public to pay homage to it. Thereafter it will be brought back to
Colombo on January 31 to be flown to India. |
