Positive moves towards peace

Moves towards resuming the peace process took a positive turn yesterday with President Mahinda Rajapakse having extensive discussions with Norwegian International Development Minister and Special Peace Envoy Erik Solheim on the possibility of re-starting negotiations with the LTTE.

Explosions in five places

Explosions have occurred in five places in the suburbs of Colombo between 8 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. yesterday. The Army sources said the explosions took place at Borella, Nugegoda, Mount Lavinia, Kiribathgoda and Wattala.

President launches 300 factories programme

The 300 factories programme spelled out in the Mahinda Chintana was launched yesterday with a total of 104 investors being registered to establish new ventures worth Rs.18116 million and providing 26320 job opportunities in rural areas.
