Explosions in five places

Explosions have occurred in five places in the suburbs of Colombo between 8 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. yesterday.

The Army sources said the explosions took place at Borella, Nugegoda, Mount Lavinia, Kiribathgoda and Wattala.

The police and the army personnel were rushed to the spots where the explosions occurred. Deputy Inspector General of Police Sirisena Herath said following these sudden explosions the security has been tightened in and around Colombo.

Police sources also said the explosions have not harmed anybody and there were no threats to the lives.

In Nugegoda, Mt. Lawinia and Borella areas the explosions have occurred on the railway tracks, causing minor damage to the rails, sources added.

The Police and the Army have jointly launched investigations into the last night explosions, sources said.
