President said Sri Lanka's problems couldn't be solved through new liberalist economy - Prof. Tissa Vitarana

"President Mahinda Rajapakse openly stated that the problems in Sri Lanka couldn't be solved through a framework of new liberalist economy. He boldly stated that we need a national policy which suits our country favourably. Now the time has arisen to implement those policies." Professor Tissa Vitarana, the Minister of Science and Technology stated so at the celebration of the 70th anniversary of LSSP, held in Colombo recently.

Professor Vitarana further stated; "as a country we may have to face many challenges. I request all the party members to take every measures towards reinforcing the strength of the leftwing." He stated that it was a triumph that the President does not accept policies, which help affluent multi national companies who are trying to turn countries like ours to third world states.

We have now begun a new journey by overcoming all these challenges. This government has an aspiration to solve the problems of the common man. There is a huge programme to activate and strengthen the national economy.

Development can be strengthened only through application of new technologies. There is a huge brain drain activating in our country. Scientists and technologists leaving the country is a huge problem. In fact we may utilize our natural and human resources to develop the country. Many countries in the world now use new technologies, but in Sri Lanka still this is not effectively being done.

Professor Vitarana further said; "It is a triumph that the proposal to implement the drug policy of Professor Senaka Bibile has been included to Mahinda Chintana.

A message sent by the President was read out at this ceremony. Children who excelled in essay competition, which had been held in memory of Dr. N.M. Perera, received awards from Professor Tissa Vitarana.
