Rambukwella joins Government

Former Minister and UNP MP Keheliya Rambukwella has decided to join the UPFA Government. Rambukwella said the country can be developed through the vision enunciated in the Mahinda Chintana. It was the duty of all to support President Mahinda Rajapakse and the Government at this crucial juncture, he said.

He said he would extend his fullest support to the President's endeavours to resolve the North-East problem.

Rambukwella, who emerged as a strong figure in the UNP, obtained the highest percentage of preference votes at the 1999 Provincial Council elections and became the Province's Transport, Highways and Cooperatives Minister.

He contested the 2001 General Election and received the highest number of preference votes in the Kandy district.

He was the Science and Technology Minister of the 2001-2004 UNF Government. He was re-elected in April 2004.
