Pass books for tsunami orphans

Renowned photographer and journalist K. Rupasinghe has commenced a programme to provide National Savings Bank accounts for hundreds of children who lost both parents in the tsunami tragedy.

This programme, which started in September, is being conducted with the fullest cooperation of the National Childcare and Probation Board and the National Savings Bank. Senior DIG H.M. Sirisena Herath and the Police Department are also cooperating to make this programme a success.

Rupasinghe, held an exhibition of photographs featured in two of his previous exhibitions at the Mount Lavinia Hotel to raise initial funds for the project. Among them were several of his international award winning photographs. The Lakmal Children's Society of Mount Lavinia, has also volunteered to make this programme a success.

All proceeds from the sale of photographs exhibited at the Hotel were remitted to a special account of the NSB Mt. Lavinia Branch. All those who wish to contribute to this worthy project should remit funds to Account Number 1-006-8033-8940 of the NSB Mt. Lavinia Branch.
