Montessori schools from USA fund tsunami homes

Ten homes in Piyagama, Kosgoda, funded by Foothills Montessori Schools of La Canada, Flintridge, U.S.A. were completed and handed over to the families affected by the tsunami, on the first anniversary of the tsunami on December 26, 2005. Each family was also provided with dry rations for a month.

Padmini Joseph, principal and administrator of the schools in the United States thanked Navin Gooneratne and Gen. Kamal Fernando of Help Sri Lanka Consortium for their support and assistance in completing this project. Mrs. Joseph explained that the funds were collected from the school's management, staff, students and their parents.

She had particular praise for the students and parents for their efforts in collecting the funds by having a fun fair, bake sales and other such activities. She pledged to help those affected by the tsunami in any way possible in the future.
