Ceylon Moors solicit support for Dhanapala to be Secretary General
The All Ceylon Moors' Association (ACMA) with its President Al Haj
Mohinudeen Rajabdeen requests President Mahinda Rajapakse, who is also
the patron of the Sri Lanka-Palestine Friendship Association to take all
steps to enhance the support for the election of Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala
for the UN's top post, a release from ACMA Secretary General M. Fareed
Mohideen said.
The message: Our Association, established in 1921, is Premier
Organisation identified with the "Ceylon Moor' community, exceeding a
million Muslims interspersed within our country, requests that all
available diplomatic channels, and resources, both here and abroad be
utilised, via our officials and special representatives of President
Rajapakse, to harness the support of all, including the Muslim member
nations, within the SAARC Asean Organisation of African Unity,
Organisation of Islamic Countries, Gulf Co-operation Council,
Commonwealth of Independent States, Commonwealth of Nations, European
Union, the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries, and the
Arab League, of which many of the world Muslim dignitaries and their
representatives, are presently gathering in Saudi Arabia to perform the
annual Haj pilgrimage in early January, ideally, at which point, we
could solicit their respective personal support in favour of Dr.
Janaytha Dhanapala, to coincide at the conclusion of the pilgrimage,
which acts could follow, and further, gain international momentum of
recognition through the print and electronic media.
In extending our fullest co-operation, to enhance success of our
running candidate, Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala, we would seek to obtain all
possible support through our leaders, organisations and institutions,
apart from all the Diplomatic Missions in Colombo, to justify the
popularity in favour of Dr. Dhanapala.
With our consolidated efforts, jointly, we hope and wish that our
representative, Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala will be successful, in doing good
by which Sri Lanka will gain recognition, since his personal
achievements and experience as an international career diplomat of
repute will help develop, especially the Third World Countries, and who
will be able to support all possible forces, to stem the spread of
terrorism and quell insurgency, restore the dignity and respect of those
sandwiched within global ethnic conflicts, arrest discrimination and
abuse of human rights, in countries within the listed regions, above,
bridge the void and gap of universal understanding of the one human
race, and who will importantly help bring lasting peace and harmony to
Mother Lanka" the message said. |
