Ceylon Moors solicit support for Dhanapala to be Secretary General

The All Ceylon Moors' Association (ACMA) with its President Al Haj Mohinudeen Rajabdeen requests President Mahinda Rajapakse, who is also the patron of the Sri Lanka-Palestine Friendship Association to take all steps to enhance the support for the election of Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala for the UN's top post, a release from ACMA Secretary General M. Fareed Mohideen said.

The message: Our Association, established in 1921, is Premier Organisation identified with the "Ceylon Moor' community, exceeding a million Muslims interspersed within our country, requests that all available diplomatic channels, and resources, both here and abroad be utilised, via our officials and special representatives of President Rajapakse, to harness the support of all, including the Muslim member nations, within the SAARC Asean Organisation of African Unity, Organisation of Islamic Countries, Gulf Co-operation Council, Commonwealth of Independent States, Commonwealth of Nations, European Union, the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries, and the Arab League, of which many of the world Muslim dignitaries and their representatives, are presently gathering in Saudi Arabia to perform the annual Haj pilgrimage in early January, ideally, at which point, we could solicit their respective personal support in favour of Dr. Janaytha Dhanapala, to coincide at the conclusion of the pilgrimage, which acts could follow, and further, gain international momentum of recognition through the print and electronic media.

In extending our fullest co-operation, to enhance success of our running candidate, Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala, we would seek to obtain all possible support through our leaders, organisations and institutions, apart from all the Diplomatic Missions in Colombo, to justify the popularity in favour of Dr. Dhanapala.

With our consolidated efforts, jointly, we hope and wish that our representative, Dr. Jayantha Dhanapala will be successful, in doing good by which Sri Lanka will gain recognition, since his personal achievements and experience as an international career diplomat of repute will help develop, especially the Third World Countries, and who will be able to support all possible forces, to stem the spread of terrorism and quell insurgency, restore the dignity and respect of those sandwiched within global ethnic conflicts, arrest discrimination and abuse of human rights, in countries within the listed regions, above, bridge the void and gap of universal understanding of the one human race, and who will importantly help bring lasting peace and harmony to Mother Lanka" the message said.
