Investor confidence soars - survey
The results of independent surveys conducted by Survey Research Lanka
(Pvt) Ltd during November and December 2005 reveal that, despite the
growing unrest in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, the mood among the
investor, public, all-island, is buoyant.

In fact, comparisons with the average scores for the 8-month period
April - November 2004 (UPFA Govt.) and the 12-month period April 2003 -
March 2004 (UNF Govt.) indicate that at this point in time, consumers
are, on an average, more optimistic about the future than they were
during the times of the last two regimes.
Is this upbeat mood of the consumer 'real'? Or, does it merely
reflect a sense of "exuberant optimism" unwarranted and unsupported by
the prevailing socio-economic conditions in the country? The next few
months will tell.
SRL Consumer Pulse is a tracking survey conducted at the end of each
month which monitors consumer confidence on a continuous basis. This
survey was initiated in April 1994 and has since been conducted at
various periods of time - the longest being the period between December
2001 and November 2004.
The latest monthly results will be posted on our website, www.srl.lk,
by the third day of the following month.
