Accelerated effort required to achieve targets - Media Minister Yapa

Since a practical approach for rebuilding the entire country has been launched under the "Mahinda Chinthanaya" program an accelerated effort should be made to achieve targets through higher productivity, said media and Information Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa when he inaugurated several community service projects at the Pannala Divisional Secretariat premises recently.

A medical and dental clinic, distribution of spectacles to the vision impaired and hearing aids and other equipment to the disabled, a mobile service of the Department for Registration of Persons for issuing NICs and a blood donation campaign were held at the venue as part of this community service project.

The second stage of this project will be held in the Hambantota district.

Minister Yapa said no future development of the country would be possible without implementing the concept of higher productivity. The Minister said implementation of development strategies devoid of proper planning and management would not help them to achieve the desired targets. He said the country desperately needed the implementation of a massive development program under proper planning and management.

The Minister said there would be no racial, religious or other forms of discrimination under the 'Mahinda Chinthanaya' which aimed to lay the foundation for a peaceful environment where people of all communities could live in peace, amity and brotherhood.

He said people in urban and rural areas of the country were blessed with exceptional talents and capabilities which should be harnessed for national development. He said community service projects of that nature were intended to cater to the needs of the rural folk and ensure them a contented life.

Pannala Pradesheeya Sabha members S. H. M. Faleel and Piyal Devapriya, Media and Information Minister's Co-ordinating Secretary Susil Wickramasinghe and ANCL Consultant Lal Fonseka were also present on the occasion.
