Rural road network development project launched in Matara district

Urgent action will be taken to develop all rural road networks in the Matara district catering to the needs of the rural masses who had been overlooked by past governments, said Home Affairs and Fisheries Housing Development Deputy Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera at the launch of development work of the rural road network in Ihala Vitiyala, Kamburupitiya recently.

Under this program Ihala Vitiyala, Bandarawatta West, Arambagoda Temple, Ganegoda and Savandagoda roads will be developed and macadamised to facilitate vehicular traffic.

Minister Gajadeera said these roads once completed will provide easy access to Bandarawatta, Arambagoda, Ganegoda, Diddugoda, Nagilgoda, Savandagoda and Kadduwa villages. He said under the 'Gam Neguma' program he planned to provide the basic facilities and amenities to villages initially.

Ven. Aturaliye Indrajothi Thera in a brief anusasana at the beginning requested the people to keep their village clean and beautiful. "Unlike some of the urban folk who kept their home garden clean by throwing garbage over their boundary wall on to the roads, we in the village should try to keep the entire village clean and beautiful to ensure healthier living," the Thera said.

Southern Provincial Council member Bindu Weerasinghe also spoke.
