Faizer steps down from CWC post
MP Faizer Musthapa has resigned from the post of Vice-President of
the CWC. In a letter to CWC Leader Arumugam Thondaman, he said:
"I was induced to enter politics on account of your persuasion and my
faith in, and admiration for your leadership. I share your vision that
the CWC should emerge as a non-sectarian party, with a truly national
outlook.
My faith in your leadership and my personal regard for you remain
undiminished. However, you would no doubt appreciate that misguided
elements have impeded the transition of the CWC to a position in which,
it could be regarded as truly representative of the interests of all the
communities.
Consequently, I have been compelled to raise issues pertaining to the
interests of the Sinhala and Muslim communities at a domestic level
within the party.
However, my protestations have not been heeded and unfortunately such
interests have not been taken into account as evidenced, for example, in
regard to the filling of vacancies for teachers in estate sector
schools.
I have therefore, concluded with regret that it would not be possible
for me to continue to hold office in the party. In the circumstances, I
hereby tender my resignation from the post of Vice-President of the
party.
I thank you for the confidence reposed in me and trust that you would
understand the reasons for my resignation." |
