JHU will not accept Cabinet portfolios - JHU Media Secretary

The Jathika Hela Urumaya will not accept ministerial positions or Ministries under the new government.

Media Secretary of Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe said that the party's Central Committee had decided on Saturday, not to accept Cabinet portfolios or any Ministerial positions under the new government.

He also said that President Mahinda Rajapakse had offered the party Cabinet portfolios, but the party had refused to accept them.

Speaking on the victory of President Rajapakse, the JHU Media Secretary said that it was historic win that disproved the myth that nobody can win an election without the support of minority political parties.

"The perception that minority political parties like the CWC led by Arunmugam Thondaman , SLMC by Rauf Hakeem, UPF by Chandrasekaran, WPPS by Manoganeshan, can make kings in Sri Lanka, has been shattered at the election, " he said.

"It could also be described as a defeat against the secessionist elements in the country. President Mahinda Rajapakse's win signifies that people in this country are opposed to racism, separatism, tribalism or any religious extremism," he pointed out.

"Moreover, this is a victory that has hailed the country's unitary stature, " he said.

JHU sources said that President Rajapakse had called for their participation in the government, and the party had decided to extend its full support to President Rajapakse to strengthen his victory.

"We believe this as a win of the nation. The JHU is presently looking forward to strengthen its relations with Tamil democratic political groups with a view to win their goodwill," said the sources.
