President condemns murder in mosque

President Mahinda Rajapakse yesterday severely condemned the killing of four persons ad causing injuries to 40 people by terrorists during prayer time at a mosque in Akkaraipattu. He stated that he would be taking all possible steps to prevent such incidents in future.

The President's message states:

"It is with deep regret and sorrow that I learnt the death of four persons at a mosque in Akkaraipattu, following a terrorist attack in the early hours of Friday, November 18.

I strongly condemn this despicable act and express my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.

Along with Minister A.L.M. Athaulla, I will be taking steps to prevent a recurrence of incidents of this nature. Under the circumstances I appeal to the public to act with calm and restraint."
