Macky Hashim conferred Deshabandu

President has conferred Macky Hashim, President SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (SCCI) with the National Honour of "Deshabandu".

He was instrumental in bringing up the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in which he is a Founder Member. He was an Executive Committee Member from its inception in 1993 and then went on to become the Vice President and later the Senior Vice President. In January 2004, Hashim had the ultimate distinction of becoming the President of the SAARC Chamber.

Hashim is the Immediate Past President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) which is the apex body of the private sector in Sri Lanka. The FCCISL took the initiative to start Chambers in Jaffna, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Ampara, and other Regional and District Chambers during his tenure as the President of FCCISL.

Hashim's initiatives saw the beginning of the world renowned Gem and Jewellery Show "FACETS". The FACETS show today has become an annual event awaited by International Gem and Jewellery Traders and Investors throughout the world and is much looked forward in the calendar of International Trade Exhibitions.

He is a Member of the Board of Management of the Trade and Tariff Cluster of National Council for Economic Development (NCED), Board Member of the Sri Lanka Tariff Advisory Board - appointed by Minister of Finance.

Hashim is a Past President of the Serendib Chamber of Commerce and Industry and also a Past President of the Chamber of Small Industries of Sri Lanka.
