Three Sri Lankans to get wild cards

"Queens" the tennis section of the Gymkhana Club will be the venue of this world ranking tennis tournament from November 28 to December 4 sponsored by Ascon Construction and Investment (Pvt) Limited.

Conducting this event in Sri Lanka gives local players the opportunity to gain world ranking points. The International Tennis Federation - London will accept entries for the main draw.

Up to ten slots will be given through qualifying rounds to be conducted from November 25, onwards at the Queen's tennis courts at Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.

India which started to conduct these events some time ago has successfully placed their players in the world tennis ranking. The second and third leg of this circuit will be held in India.

Queen's together with the SLTA will select the three "Wild Card" entries. Wild card is an entry directly into the main draw. Local players will have to match world class opposition to come through to the qualifying rounds. With little or no opportunity to face this class of opposition in the country, the Chairman of the Gymkhana Club, Mr. Shammi Silva and the Organizing Committee has decided to give three wild cards to local players.
