Heavy security for counting centres

All counting centres will be heavily guarded by armed police personnel until counting is concluded. The Police will obtain the assistance of Special Task Force (STF) and the three Forces for this purpose, IGP Chandra Fernando told the Daily News yesterday.

Any person or persons who attempt to create any problems near counting centres will be arrested and produced in court. Instructions have been sent to all police stations to be vigilant in order to avoid any volatile situation.

The law Enforcement officials appealed to the candidates to request their supporters to be at home after casting their votes to avoid any problems after the voting.

Senior DIG Sirisena Herath said that he had deployed special teams to monitor counting centres in the area to avoid any malpractices.

The special motorcycle squad fully equipped with sophisticated transmission systems set-up by the Police Department will assist to control any violence before and after the elections, Inspector General of Police Chandra Fernando said.
