Court houses to be upgraded to meet modern standards
by Sarath Malalasekera
All court houses will be equipped with sophisticated items to meet
the modern world and to assist the new generation. New technology and
setting up of Appeal Courts on a provincial basis needs to be undertaken
to develop the Courts sector, said Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva PC
after opening the rehabilitated Judicial Service Commission (JSA)
Secretary's office at Hulftsdorp recently.
Rehabilitation work was accomplished under the Legal and Courts
Rehabilitation Project assisted by World Bank, the Chief Justice said.
World Bank Assistant Director Rosio Castro also participated.
Attorney General K. C. Kamalasabeyson PC, JSA Secretary C.W.D.
Jayatilleke and senior and junior employees of the JSA also
participated.
Supreme Court Judges, Court of Appeal Judges, High Court Judges,
District Court Judges, Chief Magistrates and Magistrates from all parts
of the country were present.
A special feature at the ceremony was launching of the Website JSA
Sri Lanka for the Judicial Service Association.
As much as the Hulftsdorp old courts complex had been refurbished and
given a new outlook, the entire courts network needs to be given new
outlook to provide better and increased facilities to litigants, the
Chief Justice added.
The Chief Justice emphasised that Legal and Courts Rehabilitating
Project launched courts rehabilitation activities almost 10 years ago
and it was significant that the JSA Secretary's office had been
refurbished under this project. The Chief Justice said he was proud to
have been associated with the rehabilitation of court building. Several
more steps will be taken in the near future for the development of the
court sector. |
