Sports School to be opened on October 28

The Central Sports School for children at Nattandiya will be opened on October 28.

Forty children between the ages of six to 16 years will be admitted to the school which will have a football ground, swimming pool, basketball, table tennis, volleyball and a mountain bike area. Children from all three communities - Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims will be admitted to the school which would help to bring about friendship and understanding between them.

The Central Sports School will be declared open by Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation and MP for Puttalam District Dayasritha Tissera who will be the Chief Guest. Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Jeevan Kumaratunga and MP's k. Abdul Baiz and Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena will be the Guests of Honour.

The opening ceremony will be followed by a soccer match and a swimming meet at the newly built pool.

The Central Sports School has been built by the Asian German Sports Exchange Programme by obtaining funds from sports clubs in Switzerland and Germany.

The Chief co-ordinator of the Project Juliane Boethner has invited 250 schoolchildren and teachers from schools in Nattandiya to attend the opening ceremony and arranged a German TV Station 'Bayerischer Rundfunk' to cover the event.
