People should take correct decision on Nov. 17 - Wimal
by L.B. Wijesiri in Kandy
"The forthcoming presidential election could be a contest between a
faction who was all out to betray the nation for power and the other led
by patriots to safeguard the country so that people of all communities
could live with dignity", said JVP propaganda secretary Wimal Weerawansa.
He was addressing a rally at the Kandy Market square in support of
the candidature of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse for the upcoming
presidential polls organised by the Desha Hittaisee Janatha Vyaparaya.
The people who loved the country should make the correct decision at
this decisive election without repenting by making the wrong decision,"
he said.
UNP's pledge to bring down prices of sprats, dhall and milk powder
had not been taken seriously even by the UNPers, who show reluctance to
support the UNP leader as they could not rely on these false promises.
The masses of this country could not be deceived by such false pledges.
"Sri Lanka needed a leader emerged from grass roots level who could feel
the pulse of common man".
We do not want a leader trying to imitate imperialists as George Bush
and Bill Clinton who could not understand the way of living and thinking
of Sri Lankans.
UNP Presidential Candidate is not familiar with the set-up at Dalada
Maligawa Kandy and even how to respect and reverence to sacred Tooth
Relic," he added.
Ranil Wickremesinghe has been repeating that he would get SLFP's
support to solve ethnic conflict once he is elected to presidency.
Why didn't he come forward to work with the SLFP when Most Vens.
Mahanayake Theras and Maha Sangha advised him to do so?
"Is it not a betrayal to have ignored the advice of Maha Sangha then?
asked Weerawansa,. The Prime Minister had all the qualities to lead the
nation on correct path.
The people should act wisely in making their choice. They should be
more concerned about the country than political party affiliations.
In any event if a wrong decision is made the repercussions would be
disastrous and the younger generation and generations to come will have
to suffer, Weerawansa added.
Secretary of the Deshapremi Bhikku Front Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera,
President Sinhala Maha Sabha S.L. Gunasekara and film producer Renuka
Balasuriya also spoke. |
