UNP-LTTE scared of Mahinda's victory

"The UNP and LTTE frightened over the evident victory of the people's candidate, Premier Mahinda Rajapakse at the upcoming Presidential poll' said Ports, Aviation Minister and Deputy Minister of Education Mangala Samaraweera.

Their disillusionment clearly indicates by an LTTE website where they have asked whether the Premier would be alive to celebrate his birthday.

The Minister made these observations at a meeting in support of Prime Minister's candidature for the forthcoming Prsidential Election.

LTTE has posed a threat on the life of the Premier.

The government has taken steps to apprise the diplomatic community based in Colombo and the world community on this situation and exert pressure on the LTTE to abandon acts of terrorism unleashed on unarmed people.

'The election manifesto of Premier Mahinda Rajapakse provides expeditious solutions to country's burning problems such as poverty and unemployment, crisis in the North and East', he added.

Agricultural and Industrial, health and education and housing sectors will get momentous development under the Presidency of Rajapakse.

Large amounts of foreign exchange are pouring into the "Jana Suwaya" fund meant to providing relief to tsunami affected in the Hambantota district.

The Minister challenged MP Sajith Premadasa to reveal whether these funds are properly used for the benefit of tsunami affected in the district.

Large-scale frauds, corruptions and malpractices were rampant at times of UNP regimes. Although UNP Presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe has pledged jobs to over 300,000, not a single job was given to them during their brief reign of two years. People cannot be deceived by his false pledges.

Premier Mahinda Rajapakse, born and bred in the down south can well understand the pulse of the common masses, Minister Samaraweera added.

Southern Provincial Council Member Lakmal Nilantha, Opposition Leader Upul Nishantha and former MC Member, Matara Nalin Abeygunawardana also spoke.
