JVP challenges UNP to issue statement on LTTE killings
Strongly condemning the slaying of two school principals in the
North, JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa challenges UNP
Presidential hopeful Ranil Wickremasinghe to issue a statement
attributing the killings to the LTTE.
At a 'Dinawamu Sri Lanka' press briefing in the SLFI yesterday,
Weerawansa said that the two pro-EPDP principals had been gunned down by
the LTTE due to their consistent opposition to child proscription by the
LTTE.
He said: "Ranil Wickremasinghe will not hold the LTTE directly
responsible for the murder of the school principals. I challenge him to
state his stand at a future election rally".
He pointed out that it is apparent that Ranil Wickremesinghe's
election campaign faces no restrictions by the LTTE, even in the LTTE
controlled areas, whereas EPDP is deprived of campaigning.
He urged Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake to take
appropriate action to ensure a free and fair election, sans harassment
and influence by the LTTE.
