Shortage of qualified bankers - Deputy Governor, CBSL
BY RAMANI Kangaraarachchi
THERE is a shortage of bankers in the country with the rapid
development of the banking and financial sector and bankers have so many
employment opportunities in Sri Lanka and abroad.
Deputy Governor Central Bank and Chairman IBSL, W.A. Wijewardena said
the Institute of Bankers Sri Lanka has the capacity to train 3000
personnel for the banking sector annually.
The IBSL courses for school leavers could produce efficient and
productive young people to the banking sector giving them the
opportunity to select banking as their career with internationally
recognised professional qualifications in banking and finance,
Wijewardena said.
Director General Gamini Sarath said that 675 candidates are to
receive certificates in different levels this time and it is a
remarkable increase compared to previous years.
Being a professional body in an industry which is changing rapidly
,the institute reviews its programmes continuously to suit the needs of
the organisations in financial services, he said. It has also planned to
introduce distance learning facilities next year.
The 10th Convocation of the IBSL will be held at the BMICH on October
