They excel in Gross Division
 

Ron Murray with a nott 39 all the way from Dubai and locals Sam Guaneratne, Chamil Wickramasinghe, Ian Teit and Binupa Wijesinghe excelled in the Gross Division at the 10th SriLankan Airlines Golf Classics 2005 which got off to a fine start at the picturesque Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella off Kandy, yesterday.

A total of 60 golfers tool off yesterday under conditions much favourable for golf and the course as usual proved to be tough and challenging providing a lot of excitement.

This was round one for the first batch of golfers who will play their second round this morning and the aggregate of the two days scores will be taken into final reckoning under Gross Total and Nott Total.

In the Gross Division 15-year-old Ecole International Schoolboy Chamil Wickramasinghe had 29 gross followed by Sam Gunaratne 27 gross, Englishman Ian Teit 28 gross, another schoolboy from Wychorly International School Binupa Wijesinghe 25 gross who played to the low handicap of 2.

The Nott Division is led by Englishman Ron Murry presently based in Dubai who got 39 nott and be played to a handicap of 20.

Others to excel in this division are Anura Danthenarayana and Chamil Wickremasinghe 36 nott each, Sam Gunaratne 35 nott, Earrol Johnston 34 nott, Ian Teit and Chris Eolloway got 33 nott each, David Heynes and Mike Robinson 31 nott each, Chris Holloway and David Haynes 32 nott each and Berrry Brown, Rohan de Silva and Brian Smithere 30 nott each. In the Ladies Division Pat Rodgers playing to a handicap of 6 is on top with 32 gross followed by Liz Noble with 21 gross and plays to a handicap of five.

The Ladies Nott Division is led by a Sri Lankan lady Indira Tibblins with 31 nott followed by Pat Rodgers 28 nott and Liz Noble 26 nott. The competition is still wide open with three more days play remaining with over 250 golfers participating.

This championship is organised by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort and play will resume this morning at 7 a.m.
