Petes outplay arch rivals Joes 16-11

St. Peter's College went through some anxious moments before overcoming their traditional rivals St. Joseph's College by 16 points to 11 points in their Milo President's trophy knock out rugby tournament quarterfinal match played at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

The Peterites collected their points from two tries and two penalties having taken a close 11-10 lead at half time. The Josephians responded with two unconverted tries.

However this was a tremendous performance from St. Joseph's College who finished last in the 'A' division league points table. They crossed their opponents goal line twice in the first half and came closer of creating the biggest upset in the current inter school rugby season.

The Peterites just managed to make it to the semifinals through the individual brilliance of wing three quarter Kyle Bartlett who scored both their tries. The second and the match winning try of course was initiated by center three quarter Mathisha Silva who covered almost 40 metres before sending out a pass to his teammate.

Imran Meedin missed both convertions but did well to put over two penalties in the first half.

Antonians win with extra time try

Meanwhile St. Anthony's College Kandy pulled off a hard fought 13 points to eight points victory over S. Thomas' College in the last quarterfinal played under lights at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

The scores were level eight all at the completion of normal time with both teams scoring a try and a penalty. But the Antonians sealed the game with a superb try just few minutes into extra time that helped them to register an exciting win and book a place in the semifinals of the tournament.
