SLFPer assaulted

Central Provincial Council Member Mahinda Abeykone's Secretary Ratnakumara Eilangasinghe who is a staunch SLFP activist has been assaulted by a group of thugs last Sunday (25).

Ratnakumara has been way laid at Ankelipitiya when he was on his way back home after an Electoral Council meeting of the Hewaheta Electorate in support of Presidential Candidate, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse.

The assailants, alleged to be UNP supporters, have used a knuckle-duster to cause a severe injury on the ear region of Ratnakumara needing 4 sutures.

He is presently warded in the Thalathu-oya Base Hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained as a result of the assault.

I. P. Srinika Jayakody, OIC, Thalathu-oya said that one Samarakone alleged to be involved in the assault was arrested and produced before the Kandy Magistrate who remanded the suspect. Police are looking out for another suspect who has fled the area after the incident.
