'Celebrating Childhood' exhibition and carnival

'Celebrating Childhood', an educational exhibition and children's
carnival organised by the Information and Media Ministry to mark the
international children's day will be held at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike
Memorial Hall from September 30 to October 3.
Information and Media Minister Dilan Perera told the media yesterday
that the event which will be held under the theme 'We are the Future' is
aimed at providing education and entertainment to the younger generation
and creating awareness about children's rights.
"The Media Ministry is organising this event for the second time.
Last year it proved to be a resounding success. We expect to give our
children an even better experience through this year's carnival and
exhibition," he said.
According to the Minister, this year's event will include novel items
like programmes by the private media and exhibition stalls of the Arthur
C. Clarke Centre, the Armed Forces and the Central Bank. Children's
parks, children's films, book exhibitions, mobile computer labs and over
200 exhibition stalls of Government and private institutions will add
colour to the event.
Minister Perera said that speech, drama, arts, singing and gymnastic
competitions will also be held for schoolchildren during the carnival.
Items of the carnival will be telecast live on Rupavahini (SLRC),
Independent Television Network, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and
Lakhanda Radio. The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) is
the print media sponsor.
ANCL, SLRC, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, State Printing Corporation,
Government Publications Department, Development Lotteries Board, State
Mortgage and Investment Bank, National Savings Bank, People's Bank,
Mobitel, Elephant House and Sri Lanka Telecom are the other sponsors of
the event. |
