Niluka, Chandrika win shuttle titles

THE reigning national champion Niluka Karunaratne of Bartleet and Chandrika de Silva of Seylan Bank clinched the men's and women's singles title respectively at the Dulux individual open badminton championships worked off at the Royal College Sports Complex recently.

Niluka Karunaratne beat T. de Silva of Sampath Bank in the men's final while Chandrika de Silva had the better of M. Dissanayake of Hatton National Bank in the women's final.

In fact Chandrika de Silva went on to complete a triple crown as she also bagged the women's doubles title and the mixed doubles title.

In the women's doubles tournament final Chandrika de Silva along with R. Kalpana of Hatton National Bank defeated the pair of N. Gayanthi (Hatton National Bank) and T. Jayasinghe (Sampath Bank) and in the mixed doubles final Chandrika de Silva joined Thushara Edirisinghe of Pacific and defeated the combination of Duminda Jayakody (Pacific) and R. Kalpana (Hatton National Bank).

Meanwhile Duminda Jayakody and Thushara Edirisinghe took the men's doubles title while overcoming Amila Kalugalage (Sampath Bank) and Lakshman Silva (Hatton National Bank). The overall winner and the CIC challenge trophy went to Hatton National Bank who collected a total of 62 points.
