Notice issued on IGP

APPEAL Court Judge Justice Sisira de Abrew yesterday issued notice on the Inspector General of Police in a Writ application filed by UNP parliamentarian Jayalath Jayawardane seeking additional security.

The court issued notice on the IGP and SSP Solanga Arachchi of the Police Headquarters returnable on October 31.

Jayawardane sought a Police back-up jeep, two police drivers, a Sub-Inspector and one Police Constable as additional security.

Counsel Amarasiri Panditharathna for the petitioner submitted that his client had been assigned to the Eastern Province by the UNP to engage in political activities.

He submitted that since there was rivalry between the LTTE and its decedent group in the Eastern Province, his client needed additional security.

The notice is returnable on October 31.
