Approval for 47 Cabinet memorandums

CABINET Spokesman Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday said the Cabinet which met this week has approved 47 Cabinet memorandums.

The following are some important decisions:

Following a Cabinet memorandum submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, Cabinet approval has been granted to the Tsunami Affected Areas Rehabilitation Project estimated to cost US $ 310 million. Under this project US $ 221 million will be allocated for a road development project and US $ 89 million for bridges and coast way.

The majority of the money allocated to this project will be foreign funds. The project will cover all Tsunami affected areas.

Cabinet approval has been granted to donate Rs. 1.3 million for the construction of two sites of the ceremonial approach of the Eastern Vahalkada of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, Anuradhapura.

Cabinet approval has been granted for vesting Urban lands of the Mahaweli Authority required for the implementation of the Angunakolapellessa township development project and to allocate Rs.350 million to the Urban Development Authority to implement the project.

Cabinet approval has been granted to allocate Rs.212 million to implement the Kammalwatta and Nupewatta housing projects for rehousing the tsunami affected in the Matara district.

Cabinet has approved to purchase 100 passenger carriages for Sri Lanka Railway. The Cabinet also approved to appoint a negotiating committee to procure these passenger carriages and sign an MoU between the Government and National Machinery Imports and Exports Cooperation, China.
